Student loans continue to impact entry into religious life. In a 2012 study, nearly 1/3 of applicants reported significant student debt which hindered their vocation, according to to the National Religious Vocation Conference. The problem continues today: Sr. Ann Dominic, a Dominican sister who found a way to pay down high student debt before entering the Dominican Sisters of Nashville, reports that every young person she talks to about vocations asks her about what she did to pay down her loans.
“The amount can vary from person to person,” Sister Ann Dominic told the Arlington Catholic Herald, newspaper of the Diocese of Arlington. “But every young person I’ve talked to at some point asks the question, ‘What did you do about loans?’”
